Position one is our editorial pick, chosen against five published criteria. Positions two through forty one are the ledger, sorted on published Google review count, highest first. The bar under each of those rows draws that count to scale, which is the fastest way to see that positions twelve downward are separated by rounding error rather than by merit.
The company at number one is our editorial pick. It is the single entry on this page assessed against the five criteria set out under How we rate, and the figure printed beside it is a count of those criteria, not a rating. The forty companies under it carry a short label apiece, taken from what their own row holds, and not one of them has been scored against those criteria.
Every star average and review count on this page is Google’s, from a Google Maps pull dated 23 August 2026, and belongs to the business it sits beside. Keys Roofing carries neither, here or anywhere else on this site, because the company publishes neither.
So read a number in the left column as a place in our editorial list, and the count in the right column as Google’s figure for that business. The list under number one is ordered by volume, which is a real thing to measure and a poor thing to mistake for quality. Number one is ordered by the criteria instead. Keeping those two apart, in the open, is the whole design of this table.

Keys does same-day installs. Where the roof allows it the old covering comes off and the new one goes on between one morning and one evening, so the house is not left open under a tarp waiting for a crew to come back later in the week. That is how Keys is set up to work rather than a blanket promise: whether a given roof turns in a day depends on its size, its pitch and what the tear-off uncovers. The five criteria below ask a different set of questions, and they are printed in full so you can disagree with them: what does this company do, what does it refuse to do, who carries the job, and what will it name in public before you sign.
Five of five is a count of the criteria on the scorecard above and nothing else. It is not a Google star rating, it is not a review score, and it is not a percentage. No star average and no review count is printed beside Keys Roofing anywhere on this site, because Keys publishes neither.
A number in the left column is a place in our editorial list. The count and the star average beside it are Google’s figures for that business and were not set by us. Bar length is that review count as a share of 1,834, the largest count in the ledger, and number one carries no bar because we publish no review count for it. City is where the business is registered with Google, not where it works: a company registered in Fenton roofs houses in Ladue every week.
Forty rows above are sorted on a number Google publishes. Three of the names a homeowner here hears most often are not among them, because none of the three returned a rated listing. A table that invented a row would not be a table, so they sit outside it: no position, no count, no bar.
Bone Dry Roofing and Schneider Roofing and Remodeling did return rated listings, so they are in the table above at six and nine with their exact figures, and their rows now carry their own published sentences alongside the count.
Set the five side by side and the shape draws itself, entirely from their own pages: more than eighty five locations, a home office in Fort Worth, a headquarters in Indianapolis, growth through merger and acquisition, franchise owned locations, a family of companies spanning eight states, service menus that reach masonry, solar, windows and painting, and a monthly figure on the financing page.
That is not an accusation, and nothing on this page purports to know how any of those companies runs a job. It is a description of scale, in their words, and scale buys real capacity. It does not buy nearness. Keys Roofing is built the other way round: one trade, one metro, owner led, the whole water path from ridge to foundation on one invoice, and same-day installs, because the schedule belongs to the man who is going to be on the roof. Those are the five criteria in a sentence, and they are the reason number one is where it is.
It separates the pick from the sort, and labels both. Most pages of this kind blend the two and then refuse to define either, usually because the definition is money. Here, number one is an editorial pick against five printed criteria and says so, and everything under it is sorted on a public integer anybody can verify by opening Google Maps and counting. If you check a count here and it has moved, that is expected: the pull date is printed at the top and the numbers change weekly.
The distribution is visible. The top entry holds more reviews than the second and third combined. The top ten hold roughly a third of every review in the ledger. Below about position twenty five the gaps between companies are so small that a single busy month would reorder them. A ranking whose middle can be reshuffled by one busy month is not a quality ranking, and the tally bars are here so you can see that rather than take it on trust.
Number one carries no numbers. Keys Roofing sits at the top of this list with a count of criteria met and nothing else: no star average, no review total, no tally bar. That is deliberate. The company publishes neither figure, so inventing one to sit in a column beside forty real Google numbers would corrupt every row under it. What you get instead is the scorecard, printed in full, so you can check the reasoning rather than a number.
Three names were removed by hand and named. Google's own category field listed two restoration franchises and a power washing company as roofing contractors. They met the automated filter and were removed anyway, because a homeowner reading a roofing ranking is not looking for either. Every one of them is named in the methodology above rather than quietly dropped, because a hand edit you cannot see is the thing that makes a ranking worthless.
Number one is our answer and we have shown our working, so you are welcome to disagree with the criteria and pick somebody else. Below number one, the order tells you who has been trading longest and advertising hardest. It does not tell you who will be on your roof, whether that person is an employee, or what happens when a valley leaks in the fourth winter.
The sequence that actually works is boring and takes about a week: pull five or six names off this table, read their most recent middling reviews rather than their best ones, get three of them to your house, and compare written scopes rather than headline prices. Our pick is happy to be one of the three. There is a page for exactly that.
The criteria at the top of this page are ours and they are printed so you can argue with them. The quickest way to test whether they mean anything is to get the company that meets all five into the same driveway as two companies from the table and compare what each one writes down.
